Do I need to install anything to use Screen Recorder?
No. Screen Recorder works directly in your browser. There is no software to install, no app to download and no plugin required.
Is my video uploaded to a server when I use Screen Recorder?
Never. All processing happens locally on your device. Your file never leaves your computer, which is why there is no upload wait and no privacy risk.
Which video formats does Screen Recorder support?
It records as WebM (VP9) in the browser, then converts to H.264 MP4 at the captured resolution — the standard format that plays everywhere.
What happens to my file after processing?
Nothing is stored anywhere. Once you close the tab, everything is gone. We have no server, no storage and no access to your files.
Will my video have a watermark?
No — every download is 100% watermark-free. EditVideo never adds logos, branding or watermarks to your files.
Can I record system audio?
Yes in Chrome and Edge — tick "Share audio" in the share dialog. Firefox needs extra settings, and some Safari setups don't offer system audio; a mic is always available as a fallback.
How long can I record?
Up to 10 minutes per recording — a browser-memory guard so recordings never fail at the last second. For longer content, record in segments and join them with our video merger.
Can I record my screen on a phone or iPad?
No — mobile browsers don't allow web-based screen capture. Use the built-in recorder on your phone, then bring the file here to compress, trim or convert it.
How is this different from Loom?
Loom stores your recordings on its servers; this recorder never uploads anything — the file stays on your device and you download the MP4 directly. No account, no watermark, no time limit per day.
Why is my screen recording black?
Protected content (streaming apps with DRM, some banking pages) blocks capture by design — it records as black. For normal apps, black frames usually mean GPU acceleration issues: try a different browser or disable hardware acceleration.
Can I record a meeting or video call?
Yes — share the meeting tab or window, tick "Share audio", and record. The recording stays on your device (nothing is uploaded to any server), which makes it safer for work content. Always let participants know you're recording, as local laws require consent in many places.
